Are you planning a trip to Italy? Since August 16th, new very strict rules have been put into place in this country, which also affects drivers. To ensure that your trip is not marred by high bills, you should be aware of the following:
🔥 Three of the most serious offences:
1. Throwing rubbish out of the car = up to €18,000
Even throwing a cigarette butt or a bottle out of the car window (even when the vehicle is parked) can now be extremely expensive. The fine can be as high as €18,000. In nature reserves, the offender may have their driving licence revoked and be given a prison sentence.
2. Using a mobile phone while driving = fine + driving licence revocation.
A single phone call without a hands-free device can cost up to £1,400 and result in a one-week driving licence revocation.
3. Parking in disabled parking spaces = up to €990
Illegal parking is expensive: up to €990 for a disabled parking space, up to €650 for stopping in a bus lane.

❗ Important information for drivers:
· Cameras see everything: Inspectors are no longer required to issue fines – violations are automatically recorded by cameras.
· Same rules for everyone: Foreigners are punished in the same way as locals.
· Will your driving licence be confiscated in Italy? Yes. And this can cause considerable difficulties.

Conclusion: Italy has made a serious effort to enforce order. The rules have become stricter and the penalties alarmingly high. Be careful where you park, do not litter and use a hands-free device when driving.
