In a 16-seater minibus Sprinter MB 619, a motor knock appeared while driving along Autobahn 71 near the city of Erfurt. The driver drove to the nearest parking lot. Dispatchers of the carrier company found on the Internet the telephone of the international help desk AWHelp24. Within an hour, the bus was evacuated to a car service company Autowelt GmbH in Niederlauer.
Service mechanics diagnosed a bus engine. It turned out that the cylinder block was out of order. In the fourth cylinder, a piston finger flew out and broke a sleeve.
Together with the owners of the Latvian transport company, a decision was made to replace the OM 651 motor. In the beginning, we decided to buy a Mercedes Sprinter OM 651 motor in Germany. But all the proposed engines were either expensive or in poor technical condition and without warranty. As a result, a contract engine was installed on the bus, which was brought by the owner from Latvia. After which, the motor was programmed on a Mercedes Benz branded service. And the bus returned to its route.
