From November 2025, police in North Rhine-Westphalia are implementing a revolutionary commercial vehicle monitoring system. Special devices allow reading tachograph data directly from the roadside without stopping vehicles.

Key Changes:

· 14 modern scanning devices procured
· Coverage of 10 police departments in the region
· Remote verification of speed, driving times, and rest periods
· Selective stopping of violators only

Technology Deployment:
Systems deployed in police departments of Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Cologne, Bielefeld, Münster, Aachen, Krefeld, Lippe, Recklinghausen, and Unna.

Control Effectiveness (Last Year):

· Checked: 48,000 trucks
· Violations detected: 36,000 cases
· Main violations: exceeded driving times and non-compliance with rest periods

Statement by Interior Minister Herbert Reul (CDU):
"Daily transit of thousands of trucks necessitates enhanced controls. Many drivers work beyond norms due to tight delivery schedules, creating road safety risks."
