AWHelp24's information department continues to familiarize carriers and drivers with the new rules according to the Mobility Package, which went into effect on August 20, 2020. 7. Return of the driver to the country where the company's operations center is located. The mobility package imposes on the carrier the responsibility of organizing the work of drivers in such a way that they have the opportunity to return to the operations center (base) for appropriate resting periods. During this time, they must use at least one regular weekly resting period or a weekly resting period of more than 45 hours in order to compensate for the reduced weekly resting hours. It is important that transport companies organize their work in such a way that they do not spend too much time away from home and can take advantage of long breaks to spend time with the community. As a result, drivers should have the freedom to choose where they spend their resting period - at home or in the company's office. These actions must be documented in the form of tachograph records, driver's work plans or other documents. They must be available at the office of the transport company and provided at the request of the regulatory authorities. 8. Extending the driving time of the vehicle. The driver will be able to exceed the daily or weekly driving time by a maximum of an hour to drive back to base or to a residence, in order to use the weekly regular or shortened resting period. Provided that the extra hour will not create a hazard in traffic. Also, the driver will have another option - to extend the driving time by two hours, provided that immediately before the start of the additional working time, he uses a 30-minute break. The reasons for the extended working hours will be manually recorded on the tachograph disc, printout or work plan immediately upon arrival at the destination. 9. Cabotage. The mobility package introduces changes to the current cabotage regulations. At the moment, three cabotage operations in a foreign country are allowed within seven days. BUT! From March 2022 onwards, the carrier will be able to perform a maximum of three cabotages within seven calendar days, however, the driver will not be able to perform the next cabotage in the same country unless at least four days have passed since the last trip. This means that the vehicle will be "frozen" (hence the used term cooling off) within 4 days after cabotage is performed (eg in Germany).
